What's the use??
Sustainability is about using just enough resources to live in the present while protecting their heritage and allowing these same resources to continue to support future generations. Many of our natural resources are being depleted or unprotected at a rate that is not renewable e.g. oil, soil, minerals, air and water.
Take an Ecological Footprint test to see how many planets we would need if we continue to live the way we do now. This footprint is in relation to the country you live in and is expecting individual action to be the answer, which it is if we are all in this together.
A real dilemma in confronting and dealing with environmental problems is that they can seem so huge, one can feel that there is little that an individual can do. This is not correct.
Any social movement which brings about significant change in society is really just the sum total of individual actions, of people deciding to change their behaviour. Recycling and conservation can directly reduce demand for biological resources and can reduce incentives for destroying natural ecosystems.
We have a choice:
Either we can blame producers for not keeping up with our demand (the producers really want us to have a large demand as it keeps them financially secure - just think of the use of electricity and oil)
Or we can take responsibility for our actions and reduce our demand on resources and thus our need for the earth's rapidly depleting resources.
Sustainable living = Healthy living

Keep in mind that living sustainably is not the same as being self-sufficient e.g. cycling keeps you fit and the air clean
Take responsibility and start with small changes in your daily life for your environment.
