2004 Urban Care and Palmerston North City Council's efforts
Urban Care acknowledges the valued support thousands of residents have given each year to cleaning up their chosen part of our New Zealand landscape. Kiwis keeping New Zealand Beautiful in Clean Up New Zealand has promoted and encouraged environmental awareness in a practical way for New Zealanders to get out and do something positive to beautify and make their part of New Zealand ”litter free”.
This year was another chance to join in by registering your families, schools, groups, teams, businesses interest in a street, school, park, reserve, beach, roadside clean up of your choice. Registration was required for the provision of bags and access for disposal of rubbish. Contact Urban Care: Ann Heaphy 35 79018 e-mail rah@xtra.co.nz
Urban Care and Palmerston North City Council support World Clean Up day on September 18 by encouraging schools, individuals, community groups and businesses to clean up a public area that either seems to collect rubbish or needs a bigger effort occasionally but this can be done throughout September.

Feedback
Ashhurst School reports: "Our school did a huge clean-up on Tuesday afternoon (something we do daily!) and this year we collected less rubbish than ever before! We are proud to say that, because of our on-going “reduce our rubbish” focus, we are known as one of the cleanest schools in New Zealand. We actively encourage our pupils to keep our beautiful school clean and rubbish free all the time."
Mid Central Health - Ten PN Hospital staff, including the CEO, Board Chairman and his wife, completed our 6kms cleaning up Kelvin Grove Road, from McLeavey Drive to Ashhurst-Bunnythorpe Road on Saturday morning in just on two hours. We picked up a full trailer load and filled the back of Dennis Geddis's van with rubbish.
We sorted the rubbish into recycleables and took it to Ferguson Street - they took only the recycleables, and said we had to take the rest to Malden Street for dumping. The staff who were able to come enjoyed the experience and were amazed at how much McDonald's takeaways rubbish was collected - possibly 20% in total !!
We are keen to do it again next year. Congratulations to Urban Care for another wonderful and well-organised project. Thanks again for all your help.
