"Junk for Joy" Day (was known as Zero Waste Day) 
Urban Care held another successful Resident/ Student Community Recycle Reuse event on Saturday 13th November.

New Junk ForJoy Day this Saturday (11 November) Event for FREE!! disposal of items too "Good To Dump"!! Gold coin donation to remove items. Proceeds go to local Food Banks Clean-Up the Region 2005. Follow this link for information on where and when.  Junk for Joy 06.doc(31.50 KB)

The Clean Up effort in September was again held with the support of the Palmerston North City Council to correspond with World Clean up day September 13th. Groups that wished to adopt an area to clean up contacted Ann Heaphy (06) 357 9018 to register and obtain bags and gloves.  

Tribune Street Pride 2004-5 Competition

A patio gardenUrban Care organised Street Pride 2004 in February. The competition was to reward Palmerston North residents who take time and pride in their gardens.  Residents were invited to share their hard work and D I Y skills with the community.  

Patio garden All that was needed was for the entrant to take a photo of it and send it in with their entry form.

Residents were also being asked to take a look around the city and vote for a street they favoured in their Ward.

Zero Waste Day

Another Urban Care initiative encourages the public to bring stuff that is too good to dump to a site in each Ward of Palmerston North where others might find it of use to them. This happens two times a year and the only charge is a donation to Foodbank.Zero Waste Day 15.11.03.doc(23.50 KB)

ARE YOU A CLUTTER BUG?

Do you have a storage problem? Nominate your space that desperately needs organising and decluttering by photographing the pile of stuff in your house or garage to be in the draw for a "De-Clutter Storage Makeover" Consultation and storage materials to value of $500. Special services provided by The Space Maker, Hilary Oxley.

COOK'S CULINARY CHALLENGE

Create a 3 Course Meal with healthy ingredients, low cost, high value and low environmental impact with packaging and transport. Judged by UCOL's chef trainers. Win groceries to the value of $500.

LITTER ART

Create a masterpiece (litter-ally) with the litter at the Clean-Up. What rubbish is out there? Produce an exciting and creative visual art form of litter collected at your clean-up and take a photo on site. Then remove the rubbish so it is litter-free. Photographs will be judged by Wednesday 5th Octover by Horizons Regional Council. Winners will receive a trip to Kapiti Island. Deliver photosto The Tribune (Manawatu Standard Office, The Square)

BUSINESS "STEPS CHALLENGE" FOR WELL BEING

Business teams can clock up how many steps were taken altogether to do the clean-up using a pedometer - in conjunction with Sports Manawatu. Win a healthy Subway Platter.

Clean Up NZ Week 2003

Was a National Week of encouraging groups to clean up around their local area. Urban Care had the support of the Palmerston North City Council to have a Spring Clean for all of September 2003. See lots of photos of the group efforts: Clean Up New Zealand Week

Palmy Pure

Palmerston North's drinking water is being promoted by Urban Care as Palmy Pure. It was judged best tasting water supply by Council engineers throughout New Zealand at a Conference in Auckland 2003.  Urban care palmy pure.doc(20.00 KB)

“Spring into Beautification”

The winners have received the prizes for their superb entries in the Poetry to Pukeko - Photography to Art - Square Poetry competitions and these were available to view at Te Manawa foyer, by the museum.
