KAHUTERAWA BACK TRACK MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

Malcolm Todd from the Horizons Regional Council talking with a Back Track committee member and track volunteer about the effect of the Kamahi dying, seen in the background beside the Kahuterawa stream bridge and whether it is due to possums. The Kahuterawa tracks at the top of the Kahuterawa Road include the Back Track, which has mountain bike riding access and the Sledge Track. The Sledge Track was opened by the Prime Minister in April 2003 and Helen Clarke acknowledged the effort made by Ian Argyle in completing his vision of making the old mine and Maori track into a public walking track.

Ian Argyle and his team are still working on the track and there is now a side track at the top to check out the old mines and the track now reaches Hardings Park near the top of the Turitea Valley.

For information contact Ian Argyle- isargle@infogen.net.nz
