Turitea Reserve Consultation

Council has approved for consultation a Statement of Proposal and Statutory Notification of proposed change to the purpose of the Turitea Reserve and to Amend the Turitea Reserve Management Plan and now invite your submissions to these proposals.

The proposed change is to allow Renewable Energy Generation within parts of the Turitea Reserve.  This would mean that a wind farm could be developed on parts of the Reserve, this consultation process allows Council to hear the residents comments on altering the purpose of the reserve.  The area on which turbines would be allowed is detailed in a plan contained in the Consultation Document.  There are no changes proposed for the 900 hectare Hardings Park Reserve.

Included in the Consultation Document is the concept of an eco park which would be developed using the income from the Windfarm.  The eco park would involve the revegetation of native plantings, pest eradication programs being established, reintroduction of birds, and the development of a recreational park for residents and visitors.
