Do you have questions about modern science?

The Science Cafe is an informative, relaxed environment where issues in science can be discussed and debated. Each session starts with a brief presentation by a speaker. What follows is the opportunity to quiz and debate, agree and oppose, postulate and ponder the topics raised while enjoying a coffee or two. It's all about socializing, relaxing and chewing over some of today's science.

Speaker: Mike Hendy
Title: "Dogma in Science: What really killed the dinosaurs?"

Science has been extraordinarily successful in explaining the world around us, but is the distinction between hypothesis and fact always recognized? This discussion will examine the issue of dogma vs hypothesis in science, illustrated by current acceptance of the “impact” explanation for dinosaur extinction. Mike Hendy is Professor of Mathematical Biology and Director of the Allan Wilson Centre for Molecular Ecology and Evolution at Massey University
