Green Corridors Update 2010

Arbour Day 2010

The Arbor Day planting took place on 6 June 2010 at the Lower Pari reserve off Waicola Drive, Summerhill despite light rain falling.  Twenty residents, IPC students, Green Corridor and council members helped plant 380 trees.

Palmerston North Girls High School Enviro-Group Seedling Dig

The Palmerston North Girls High Enviro-Group worked in the Titoki Reserve on 2 October 2010, digging up native seedlings that would otherwise not survive.  The seedlings were potted up into planter bags and will be grown on for another two years before being replanted back into Titoki Reserve.  A considerable number of seedlings were collected with a good variety of species represented.

Palmerston North Girls High School Enviro-Group planting day

The Palmerston North Girls High Enviro-Group gave up part of their weekend on Saturday 21 August 2010 to plant trees in the Titoki Reserve.  The trees were dug up from the same reserve approximately two years ago as seedlings and had grown up to a replantable size making survival rates a lot higher.  The girls had fun doing the planting and it was all worthwhile, with some students having dug up those same seedlings in 2008.

The City Corporate (Palmerston North City Council) volunteer day

This took place in June 2010 and 57 staff members helped plant 650 trees and weed Tradescantia in the Picnic and Peanut Slab areas.

Seven Wonders visit!

In January 2010, 30 people visited the picnic area site as part of a Forest & Bird 'Seven Wonders' trip up the Turitea valley.
