Aims:

  • Ashhurst Action Group working bee planting daffodil bulbs on Saddle Hill Road, May 2006Foster pride and community spirit in Ashhurst by promoting the enhancement of the built and natural environment
  • Communicate the views of the community to representatives of local government
  • Develop facilities and the environment for the benefit of residents and visitors
  • Work to provide a stimulating environment for young people growing up in Ashhurst

Ashhurst Domain Wetland 
Members of the Ashhurst Action group and other volunteers led by Bill Phillips and Ken Pratt are keen to protect and enhance the wetland, both the swamp and ox-bow, at the Ashhurst Domain.

The enid-mural-aqual1-www.jpgMural completed for Ashhurst region fun map in Cambridge Ave, Ashhurst.  Depicts the views and sights around Ashhurst, including windmills, train, Manawatu Gorge and the attractions in the Pohangina Valley.  Completed – March, 2002.

Painting of murals on the walls of the Ashhurst Sports Domain changing rooms by AAG member, Enid Roberts.  Murals depict the Ashhurst Wetland, Manawatu River and bush scene and sports played in the Domain.   Completed 6 murals – March, 2003.  Work ongoing.

Survey of SH3 residents and report on road safety issues, eventually leading to improvements and lowering of speed restrictions.  Completed - March, 2000.

Development of landscaped public notice board and seating area in Cambridge Ave.  Completed – September, 2000.

Ashhurst Action Group SH 3 tree planting and clean Up NZ effortSH3 tree planting and green corridor established between Cambridge Ave and Mobil Station.  Completed planting – August, 2002.Survey of Ashhurst residents on local development preferences and production of comprehensive report for PNCC based on the survey results.  Available in PDF form.  Completed – November, 2001.

Village Green landscaping has been a continuing project since 2000. A rambling lime path was laid in April, 2002.  A rock sculpture, horse trough and pump were installed July, 2002.  The RSA memorial is to be upgraded into a memorial wall in December, 2002.

Projects planned or in progress:
  • Instigating a walkway from Pembroke Street from Domain
  • Paint another mural on Sports Domain changing rooms with Tangata Whenua historical scenes
  • More Christmas lights to be purchased and installed for Christmas season
  • Purchase and installation of electric barbeques at the Ashhurst Domain bush reserve
  • SH3 landscaping and tree planting to be continued beside railway tracks and road from Ashhurst boundary to Custom St
  • Internal lighting of the oak tree, Village Green
  • Investigation of use of the old gravel pit for use as a BMX track.
