Turitea Stream Green Corridor
Green Corridors
About the Project
The project involves the establishment of a green corridor where eco-sourced native plants are planted along the Turitea Stream. The aim of the project is to link the Tararua Ranges with the Manawatu River through a planted corridor. Protection/enhancement of biodiversity is the primary objective of this Corridor. Public access and recreation objectives will be promoted in some parts of the Green Corridor, such as the area of esplanade reserve known as the "Rock Farm" located at the western end of the Corridor.

Project Leader Green Corridors
Duration The project started in early 2000. All Council owned esplanade areas along the Turitea Stream have been planted with eco-sourced plant material. These esplanade areas do not yet form a connected corridor. Green Corridors will continue planting new esplanade reserves/strips as they become available. Completion of the corridor through private land depends on the willingness of private landowners to plant their own properties.
Some areas that were raised for future or for more planting included:
- Valley Views Extension
- Turitea Stream Esplanade Reserve south-east of the Rock Farm
- Keebles Bush (surrounding by Massey Farms)
- Retire short section of stream near Tennant Drive - extension from Keebles Bush to Tennant Drive. This area would need around 2,000 plants. However, they would not be required until 2006/2007. Keebles Trust is already committed.
- Further extension of the Rock Farm planting that has already been done.
- Adderstone Reserve
- Mangaotane Reserve
- Pari Reserve
- Tutukiwi Reserve
- Cliff Road Reserve
