Vermi(worm)-Composting

Food wastes, both preparation and plate are a significant fraction of the city's waste-stream and are easily converted to a valuable resource in the form of a liquid and solid compost. They should be utilised in such a manner rather than sent to the landfill where they are the source of various problems.

Composting with worms, both domestic and industrial, is gaining great popularity throughout New Zealand as people realise the value of the resulting compost. Plant growth response to both the solid and liquid composts is remarkable.

For further general and operational information on vermi-composting including supply of worms, vermi-composts and 'Worm Around' bins contact: Gillian Leach ph: 06 354 4337

For specific educational, research and development, policy and strategy issues contact: Alan Fielding, PNCC, ph: 06 356 8199 x7809.
