Aerobic Composting and Mulching
Organic wastes are a large part of the city's refuse. You can help reduce that volume and associated cost by mulching/composting your kitchen and garden organic wastes. At the same time help yourself to a free improver and fertiliser and return valuable nutrients to where they belong. Composting is simply a method of speeding up natural processes of decay. A good technique minimises loss of nutrients and thus produces high quality compost.
If you want further details regarding composting and mulching ask for a free magnetic composting flower from the City Council's Customer Service Centre.
This will tell you:
- what to put in
- what to leave out
- the gear you need
- the method to use
- plus infornmation on: no-dig gardens

Composting is really quite simple, easy and can be a lot of fun too!
With a composter such as the 'Earthmaker', into which the Palmerston North city Council had some input, is especially easy for citizens with age and disability limitations. It is a continuous cycle, self turning device removing the hard work of traditional composting.
