Ashhurst Murals
enid-mural-aqual1-www.jpgAshhurst Action Group - Artist Enid Roberts in the Ashhurst Action Group is using her talents to show features of Ashhurst through art on a billboard and walls of the Domain Sportsfield changing rooms, with the assistance of other notable Ashhurst artists. One to go ...

Barber's Bush
Barber's Bush Care neighbourhood group - La Lena Grove neighbourhood restoration project with joint efforts from ENM groups, Forest and Bird and Walkways Advisory Group, PNCC and Horizons Regional Council.

Clean Up September
Urban Care  - organises local participation for cleaning up public areas in partnership with the Palmerston North City Council over the whole month of September. The national Clean Up week is organised by Keep New Zealand Beautiful.

Commemorative Tree Scheme
Contact Manawatu Tree Trust by planting a tree to celebrate any family event (e.g. new baby, anniversary).

Competitions
Urban Care holds annual Clean UP NZ competitions in September and Street Pride competitions from November to February. Also watch out for Keep PN Beautiful promotions or Grow a Giant Pumpkin or Sunflower. The Palmerston North City Environmental Trust holds an Green Screen Awards opening in November, closing June 30th.

Esplanade Nature Trail 
Forest & Bird Manawatu in cooperation with PNCC have relaunched the pamphlet to guide those wanting to learn about the native plants in the Esplanade.

Exploring the Manawatu Estuary
The Manawatu Estuary Trust commissioned Abigail Allan to develop an educational CD Rom about the various facets of the estuary to help people understand and appreciate its features and values. It is available to the public.

Free Green Garden Waste Days
Urban Care organises this opportunity twice a year for Queen's Birthday Monday and now two days on Labour weekend so that residential gardeners can freely dispose of this green resource at the Awapuni Landfill between the hours of 7am and 4pm.

Keebles Bush: Link planting
Forest and Bird - Forest and Bird trip - BushJust south of Massey University five acres of riparian land are being planted, by Forest and Bird Manawatu and Keebles Bush Trust, connecting one of the Manawatu Plains best native forest remnants with an earlier planting downstream. The aim is to link up with other green corridors in the area.

Global Volunteer Network
International conservation volunteers are working to enhance some of the areas around the Manawatu by working on ENM group projects for a few days each month. If you are interested in joining a Global conservation programme also visit Earthcorps

Pit Park Planting 
The Pit Park People Society has started organising public working parties along the Tweed Street side of the Pit now that the Palmerston North City Council has cleared and contoured the site to reserve standard. Working Parties are held every third Sunday afternoon 1.00 - 3pm and every week on Thursday at 10am.

Private Bush Restoration
Forest and Bird are removing weeds (primarily invasive sycamore) fine river-terrace bush remnant at Te One in the Rangitikei region. The aim is to see it restored as a thriving native bush area. 

Street Pride
Urban Care  - holds a competition in partnership with the Tribune to reward citizens, who take great pride in their properties. 

Task Force Green
ENM groups supported a WINZ Task Force Green initiative for a conservation worker to clear "wandering willie" or Tradescantia flumenensis
from many of the bush areas affected by the recent flooding.

Trees for Survival
Environment Network Manawatu funding application and Horizons Regional Council organisation enabled schools to be involved in the Trees for Survival Programme so their students can grow native trees from seedlings. The propagated  trees will then be planted in areas for erosion protection or enhancement of an indigenous area.

Turitea Stream Green Corridor
Green Corridors has planted over 60,000 seedlings to link the Manawatu River with the Tararua Ranges via Green Corridors the main one of which is along the Turitea Stream.

Street Pride competition, Zero Waste Days, Free Green Waste landfill days and other ways the Urban Care promote pride in our local environment.

Waitoetoe Park 
Manawatu Tree Trust is working in partnership with residents, Ward Committee, PNCC, Horizons and ENM groups to continue the enhancement of Bill's Bush behind Buick Cres.

Urban Care volunteers assisting the movement of items that are too good to dump.Zero Waste Days 
Urban Care hold these days twice a year so that residents may drop off items "too good to dump" for other residents to uplift items they can use or restore for a gold coin donation to the Foodbank.
