Courses of interest:

Te Wananga o Aotearoa - Certificate of Iwi Environmental Management

Not currently available in Palmerston North but this 36 week course will be offered in Levin during 2009, starting March.  There are no fees to pay.

Overview:

Do you want to learn more about managing natural esources in your whänau, hapü, iwi or community? This programme will give you a thorough grounding in the kaitiakitanga of native flora and fauna, biodiversity, tikanga Mäori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, reporting, planning and understanding resource management legislation. This programme is taught over one weekend per month, plus tutorials.

Will include:

  • Kaitiakitanga: Explore the concept of guardianship from a Mäori world perspective, and demonstrate how it applies in your whänau, hapü and iwi. 
  • An understanding of the history of resource management legislation and its implications for iwi and hapü.  
  • How to construct an iwi management plan that reflects key Mäori values. 
  • How to improve your communication skills through listening, interviewing and writing, and gain an understanding of complex scientific writing.
