Middle Districts Farm Forestry Association

Middle Districts Farm Forestry Association is a branch of the New Zealand Farm Forestry Association Inc.. The Middle Districts branch was set up in 1956 and currently has over 200 members. It covers an area west of the main divide from Waikanae in the south to Waverley and Waiouru in the north, and also the Tararua district from the Manawatu Gorge to the eastern coast.

Farm foresters tend to be tree planters for all reasons, and there is strong commitment to environmental quality outcomes and conservation in much of what we do. Many of our members have native vegetation reserved under Queen Elizabeth II National Trust Covenants.

Middle Districts holds regular field days, up to 10 or so a year. Each field day is advertised in a newsletter which also has a report on the previous month’s event and other locally topical farm forestry news items. We usually have a mid-winter dinner with an entertaining speaker. In conjunction with the UCOL (Universal College of Learning), we sponsor an annual woodworking competition for secondary students.
